A unique array of mechanics and systems combined with it's run-like nature make it an addicting strategy experience. Each team has their unique quirks as well, the Rift Walkers are good at pushing units, the Rustling Hulks utilise smoke to damage and disable, the Flame Behemoths rely on fire as a strong DoT and the Steel Judoka rely on positioning enemies to attack each other. Then there are more general utility robots, focused on pushing and pulling or applying shields. Artillery are long and over ranged, pushing within their line of fire or adding obstructions to the field.
There are more straightforward attack ones, that deal high damage while pushing or chaining typically. There's a good range of mechs that synergise with their base team. Your goal isn't always to bring the enemies down, it's to divert danger from your units and buildings, shifting units around to attack nothing or even another enemy. The theme of time travellers being able to see into the future, even resetting turns is a fun way to disguise the gameplay mechanic of perfect knowledge. Super polished but there's not much to get attached to in terms of story and characters. In the end, the game could certainly be improved, but it's an incredibly fun game.Ĥh PlayedIt's a really well thought out game. Maybe a bit more variance in enemies would have been interesting, but overall it gets its job done. Hard, probably not always, but I suppose it makes sense. The variance is low enough that even with the worse draw possible you should be able to finish the game on easy and normal. There is enough randomization that you have to take a few decisions, and your run might be harder or easier than expected. Being a roguelike randomization is a big question. UI works pretty well, even though the main menu is a bit confusing, but in game it works pretty well. Nothing groundbreaking but again, given the type of game, it's more than expected. Actually, there is almost no story, but the characters and the small phrases they do, are enough to piece together a decent background, with interesting characters and a nice plot. Nothing spectacular but does a good job giving the right dystopian future vibes.
The squads are pretty fun and diverse (again, not all of them, but mostly).
Glittering C-beam: I am looking at you!). Most of them are not accessory but actually help you learn the game, teaching what you should do with each squad (not always the case, unfortunately. With the added bonus that turns (and also missions) are pretty short and very suitable to playing in short bursts.
Every turn is like a puzzle game, several objectives to achieve and if you cannot do them all you have to make a choice of what to save and what not, and everything has its consequences. 42h 1m PlayedWhat an awesome little game! A deceptively simple strategic game but surprisingly deep.
